This is a pretty picture and I am thrilled to see this attention being paid to the Charles River’s edge in Cambridge, but I would love to see separate paths for pedestrians and for bikes. With good reason, seniors are extremely nervous about walking near cyclists/scooters/skaters so why build that conflict into new plans? Seniors are not the only ones with legitimate fear of wheeled folks and others speeding by – parents of toddlers and people with disabilities or frailties, runners, foreigners, and many others are, as well.

Because there is not enough room for green space, pedestrians, and cyclists/scooters/skaters, we should take this opportunity to narrow Memorial Drive’s and Greenough Boulevard’s vehicular area to two lanes (one in each direction), and provide two separate, designated cyclists/scooters/skaters lanes (also one in each direction), separate from the cars and vehicular bikes.
